Senior Property Tax Discounts-- Assistance with Applications In-Person

Tax preparers will be available by appointment to help seniors and disabled homeowners to complete the senior citizen school tax discount applications. To be eligible, your total income minus  all your medical deductions must be less than $58,400.  At least one homeowner must be age 64 or more or be on disability.

For your appointment, you will need to bring the following items
1.  Bring Your 2024 federal and NY state income tax returns (all pages)

2.  Your 2026-27 senior citizen RENEWAL form if you received a renewal form back in July.  We have applications for NEW applicants.

3.  Bring your current deed or coop shares certificate.  If the house is in a trust, bring all pages of the trust.

4. Bring drivers or non-drivers licenses for all owners (or you can bring a passport)

5. Bring all 1099 forms and W2’s from the 2024 income tax to show where all your income came from.  Include the SSA 1099 form or Social Security award letter and any interest/dividend/IRA distribution 1099 forms.

6. If you are a new or first-time applicant, then you will need an IRS “wage and income transcript” for all owners for the year 2024.  The IRS will give it to you without an appointment at 999 Stewart Ave in Bethpage, NY 11714  (Tel. 844-545-5640)

7. If one of the owners on the deed is deceased, then bring their death certificate.

8.  If any public or high school children live in the house, bring an attendance letter from the school.

9.  Bring workman’s comp income letter or unemployment income, if any

10.  Bring any medical, dental, or drug expenses that you pay for out of pocket (such as medical insurance premiums or copays).  Cancelled checks and credit card statements are NOT accepted.  Get statements from the drug store, doctors, or the insurance company EOB printouts from Dec 2024. (EOB = explanation of benefits)
